Conducting Simulation-based Research
20 May 2026 | 18:00 UTC | 2:00 PM ET | 11:00 AM PT
This webinar will provide an overview of simulation-based research and its growing role in advancing education and practice. Participants will explore key areas where simulation is most effectively applied, along with the advantages it offers as a research methodology. The session will also highlight common challenges in study design and provide guidance on how to avoid them.
By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to identify core focus areas for simulation-based research, understand its unique benefits, and recognize common pitfalls to ensure more effective and impactful research outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
1) Describe the four foci that lend themselves to simulation-based research.
2) List the major advantages of using simulation as a research methodology.
3) State the most common pitfall to be avoided when designing simulation-based research.
Meet the Speaker:
Dr. Lou Halamek, MD, FAAP
Professor and Attending Neonatologist
Stanford University
Louis P. Halamek is a Professor in the Divisions of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine and Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Stanford University. His clinical expertise includes neonatal resuscitation, ECMO, and the treatment of severe cardiorespiratory failure. He serves as Director of Neonatal Resuscitation, leads the Resus One quality improvement program, and is a member of the Packard Hospital Resuscitation Oversight Committee.
Dr. Halamek is a former Co-Chair and current Special Consultant to the National Steering Committee of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and serves as a Content Expert for the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation.
As founding Director of the Center for Advanced Pediatric and Perinatal Education (CAPE), the world’s first center dedicated to pediatric, neonatal, fetal, and obstetric simulation-based training and research, his work focuses on healthcare simulation, patient safety, debriefing, and hospital operations. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in simulation debriefing and has trained healthcare professionals around the world. Dr. Halamek also co-authored A Practical Guide to Crew Resource Management for Healthcare Teams (Cambridge Scholars, 2022).
